Subject: [firstname]: Eat these to boost your immune system.

Hey [firstname]!

Yesterday, we talked about some of the bad, nutrient-poor foods that many people eat. Today I want to talk about some of the great, fresh fruits and vegetable you can buy from your local grocery store (or better yet, farmers' market) that can boost your immune system and help you stay healthy.

Let's start with citrus fruits – we're talking grapefruit, oranges, tangerines, lemons, limes, clementines etc. These fruits are high in vitamin C. Your body doesn't produce or store vitamin C, so you need get it daily for continued health.

Then there are Blueberries. These really are a superfood and contain a type of flavonoid called anthocyanin which has antioxidant properties that can help boost your immune system and is thought to play an essential role in the respiratory tract's immune defense system.

Bell peppers are another great source of vitamin C. In fact, ounce for ounce, red bell peppers contain twice as much vitamin C as citrus. They’re also a rich source of beta carotene – this helps keep your eyes and skin healthy.

Broccoli is turbocharged with vitamins and minerals. Rich in vitamins A, C, and E, as well as many other antioxidants and fiber. Broccoli is one of the healthiest vegetables you can eat. Invest in a steamer to keep the vitamins locked in.

Garlic is found in almost every cuisine in the world, and is a common home remedy for the prevention of colds and other illness. The same goes for ginger, which also may help decrease inflammation, and can help reduce a sore throat and other inflammatory illnesses.

Turmeric has been getting a lot of attention lately. This yellow spice has been used for years as an anti-inflammatory in treating arthritis. Also, research by the University of North Texas shows that high concentrations of curcumin, which gives turmeric its distinctive color, can help decrease exercise-induced muscle damage.
